  Railing Styles

Railings not only provide safety to your deck, they can also enhance the appearance. There are many rail choices and their designs are limited only by your imagination. More railing designs can be viewed on our portfolio page.

When designing a railing, there are a few considerations to keep in mind. Building codes require that all spaces in deck railings must be less than 4 inches. Also, many towns do not permit repeated horizontal rails because children tend to use them as ladders.

4x4 Post Raised Rail

This rail uses 4x4 support posts, 2x2 spindles and 2x4 horizontal rail. Optional caps add style to this railing. Virtually all the fasteners are hidden.

6x6 Post Colonial Rail

Larger 6x6 posts are used on this railing to give it a more "substantial" feel. This particular rail is made of painted Cedar with an Ipe top rail. This railing also employs hidden fasteners for a clean finished look.

Tempered Glass Rail

This design uses tempered glass inserts to permit an unobstructed view. The glass is shatter-resistant like the type used in sliding-glass doors.

Monarch Synthetic Rail

Monarch offers a top-of-the-line synthetic rail system. It offers the look of painted wood without the maintenance. This example shows optional recessed low-voltage lighting.

Deckorators Balusters

Deckorators balusters are powder-coated aluminum. They can be paired with wood or synthetic lumber. The centerpieces are optional.
